Editing Update
A major problem I experienced when editing was the length of my production. Only reaching around one minute, I decided to write an extra scene to fit in between my other two This scene features two detectives; Officer 1 (O1) and Officer 2 (O2), discussing the case. I tried to keep the narrative vague, so enigma's would be created to enhance the audience. I filmed the scene in my media classroom, selecting certain angles and shots to make the room look less like a classroom and more like an office.
Officer 1 and Officer
2. O2 is O1’s boss. O1 answers directly to him. O2 also works tightly with
their offices CI (so has a large amount authority).
O2 is sarcastic and
witty. Very intelligent.
O1 is quick minded and
one of the top detectives even though he is one of the youngest, so is
respected but also controlled.
INT. Room with a desk in the centre, two chairs
are behind the desk. Officer 2 is sitting behind the desk on his chair, relaxed
reading through a file. Officer 1 walks into shot, standing in front of the
desk.
O1: I think I've found something. She
must have run. All the evidence leads to her running away, she was secretive
with her mother, always out from home and kept herself to herself.
O2: She was
secretive, but their relationship wasn’t bad.
O1: Yes,
but that’s what her mother says, her social desirability’s will convince her
that her relationship with her daughter was perfect. We know it wasn’t.
O2
(dismissively): and how do we know that?
O1: because
of this.
O1 throws a file onto the table, O2 opens it
and reads.
O2: how did
you find this?
O1: well it
was simple really, Sasha had a small group of friends, turns out those friends
behaved exactly how she did. All secretive around their families, kept quiet
appeared to be a golden child but hardly met acceptable grades.
O2 looks worried, as if a secret has been found
out. A glimpse of panic across his face but he masks this quickly.
O2: this is
good,
Gets up
and paces around the room
O2: I’ll
hand this to the CI.
O1: CI?
O2: yes,
the woman we answer to. Our boss. She’s taking our case.
O1: what! (Exaggerated) but this is our case!
O2: not
anymore it isn’t. The case went cold as of this morning, this evidence is good
and may convince them to reopen, (sigh) but the chances of this are low. Cases
like this always remain a simple runaway.
O1: but
that’s not fair! What about her family.
O2: it
doesn’t matter. We have done everything we’ve been told to up to this point,
and we will keep it that way. Drop the case.
